Coffee Talk :: Ink, Bangs, Job, Friends & Twitter vs. FB ::

I saw this on Lena B's blog ... so I thought I would grab the button and answer the questions.

Coffee Talk with Natalie Blair

1. Let's talk about it. Do you have tattoos? How many??

I don't have any.... which is a bit of a surprise to most people who meet me.  I've always wanted one but I never knew what I wanted .... I want something that has meaning to me.
There is an idea brewing so maybe one day

2.  Let's talk about hair styles: Bangs, do you have them, or trying to grown them? What about side bangs?

Okay at the moment I have nothing ... I mean I barely have hair .... But I've had them, short, long, on the side, spiked .... you name it

See no hair at the moment

3.  Let's talk about work: Without getting specific with a company name, what do you do?  What did you want to be when you grew up when you were young?

I work for a big  international bank (but it's not a bank like you would imagine).  I also never see any money, I work as a technical editor, meaning I re-write newsletters and operational documents and forms ... in a nutshell I correct other people's work and then I publish it.  It's not the most exciting job but it's varied and I like doing it most days.  The bit that I like most about my job is the side-line..... creating Tone of Voice courses to help teach other employees how to write in a clear and effective way.

When I was little I wanted to be a teacher ... so glad I didn't go down that route

4.  Let's talk about friends:  Do you find it easier or more difficult to meet new friends as an adult?  do you have what you'd consider 'blog friends'?  What about IRL (in real life) friends?

Mmh I'd say it's been about the same for me with regards to how easy or difficult it is to meet new friends.  I'm friendly but we might not be really good friends.  I'd say I have 4 really good friends, two  who live in South Africa so sadly I see very little of them.  (thank goodness for technology).

I do have a couple of 'blog friends' who I really wish I knew in real life cause I'm sure they would be IRL friends to.  Sadly, they also live on the other side of the world.

5. Let's talk about social media:  Android or iPhone? Twitter or Facebook?

I used to have a BlackBerry but one of the dogs ate it ... then a friend gave me her old Samsung ... I still use it but only to call and text.  I think I would like an iPhone but they are just not affordable so unless I win the lottery I'll have to use my current phone for a while still.

I'm on Facebook every day ... when you have friends and family who live as far away as I do it's the easiest way to keep in touch with what is happening in their lives.  And while I do have a twitter account I never ever use it ... I don't have time

Tuesday 10

I’m hooking up with Lena B and Leigh-Ellen of Little Waterlily in a Big Pond for Tuesday 10 and this week’s topic is dead easy: Pet Peeves

My number 1 Pet Peeve without a doubt is: People who litter

Not using your indicator

Rude people, for example when you tell everyone in the lift to have a nice day and they all just ignore you

People who’s Facebook status always reads something like this: ‘I just can’t carry on’ or ‘What is the point’ … just put I want attention!

People who push to get onto the train before the people getting off have had the chance to get off

Not saying ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ and ‘bless you’ (when someone sneezes)

Not replacing the empty toilet roll (you will not believe how many people don’t do this at my office)

When I let the dogs out the house and Lulu comes back in to pee inside

Parents who don’t let you know if their kid will be attending the birthday party

Realizing that you’ve run out of something just when the stores have closed

Now... it's your turn!
Grab their button & link up!
{you don't have to follow the "theme" to link up, it's just a prompt!

Is it really Monday again?

We had such a chilled weekend … and by we I mean the kids and I, Himself had to work.
Saturday, Tiger had a football match but I decided to stay home and watch movies with Cat.  And just like every Saturday the past while it poured. And they lost. To be fair they did play the B team while they are the C team.

The rest of the day was spent pretty much just like that.  The weather was misrable so we lit the fire and watched movies and I did the washing so it wasn’t a total waste.

Then on Sunday morning we got to sleep/lie in since Cat only had ½ day scouts.  Himself had gone in to town to work at around 11.  The kids and I just vegged around the house.  It was voting day but I decided that I would go and vote after dropping Cat off.

Oops at 5 minutes to 1 I noticed that the voting station was closing at 1.  No big deal you say, if you don’t vote you don’t vote … WRONG! Voting is mandatory in Belgium.  All citizens are automatically registered and if you don’t turn up to vote you are fined.  And trust me, right now the last thing we need is a fine!

I shouted at Cat to get her butt in the car … 'I’m not dressed yet' …. 'You can get dressed in the car, just get in it'.

I raced (as fast as you can when all the other drivers are on a Sunday-go-to-meeting drive) and stormed into the voting station totally out of breath. Did I make? Did I make it? … No, you’ll have to pay 10 euro fine. What?  Nah they were just messing with me.

What I can say is when you are the one and only and last person who needs to vote it’s super quick.  Plus I got Cat to scouts on time.

And that’s it, like I said we really didn’t do much this weekend.

Ranting bout the fandamily or is that damn family

Okay so I was speaking to my cousin today (yay, she called me all the way from Australia!) and she was telling me what her brother had said to her when she was telling him about her trip to South Africa in December.

Quick background: he is married & him and his wife are expecting their first baby, a boy, in November.

Right, so he was saying to my cousin, his sister, that she should not be offended but when she comes to visit in December, to see their baby, amongst other things, that she would have to arrange for somewhere to say. Reason being that for the first 3 months after baby is born they will not have anyone stay over at their house. Since the first 3 months will be such a hard adjustment for them as a family.

Say what?!

Look, I get that I was a super relaxed mom when it came to my kids as babies and that not everyone is like that but dude, are you for real?  It’s a baby; it fits into your life. Granted you’ll be getting less sleep and you’ll have to have regular feeding and diaper changes but you can’t lock yourself away for 3 months!

Either people are going to think that you have one ugly kid and that you don’t want people to notice or by the time you realize that millions of people have babies and have had house guest and friend and family stay over no-one is going to be interested in your baby. Plus your child will be petrified of meeting people which will lead to your child never being able to function properly.  It’s just a downward spiral, I’m telling you, open your house, have your mother and your sister and your cousin and the neighbour and anyone who cares to change the baby’s diaper. Let them take the baby for a walk. Sleep while they are doing this cause they sure as hell are not going to be getting up with you at night to do it.

Ugh, am I glad that I wasn’t planning a trip over to South Africa to meet their baby, cause you know I’m not the baby’s aunty I’m just the baby daddy’s cousin who knows if I would even be able to meet the baby.….

And Charl if you are reading this, dude, you gotta give me a call, we need to talk!
