Motivation?

If you read my post of yesterday you will know that I only have 2 new years’ resolutions this year:

  1. for us is to make it to 2014
  2. to lose some weight

There is not much I can really do to ensure that my family ‘survive’ 2013 but I sure can do something about losing some weight.

I don’t know about you, but the older I get the worse my self-control has become. 10 Years ago losing a couple of kilos was nothing. These days I can find so many excuses for having just another cookie/chocolate, slice of bread, mac & cheese; anything basically.

As for exercising, finding a valid excuse why I can’t is just as easy.

But, if there is one thing that has not changed it is fact that I hate spending money on myself.

Now, I’m sure you are wondering how this ties in with losing weight. Here’s why:

My friend Noreen & I both want to lose weight. Not much, about 5kg. (11lbs). Honestly, I want to lose a bit more but if I can lose this I’ll be happy.

So we have decided that we will see who can lose the weight the fastest. The loser will then have to buy the other one their concert ticket. We are going to go see Bon Jovi in June.

Since money is already tight in my house having to buy 2 tickets i/o 1 ticket (or no ticket – if I win) might just be the best motivation to lose this weight yet.

Let the weight loss begin!

ps. relax!  I’m not planning on starving myself or anything stupid I’m just going to stop eating junk, walk a bit faster when I walk the dogs at night, etc

New beginnings

New beginnings…… it really is what I want for this year. 2012 has been a tough year for my family, right up until the end.  I can honestly say that I’m very glad that we managed to survive it.

We had a bit of a scare just after Christmas when Himself had a severe allergic reaction (we are not 100% sure to what). At 2 in the morning he raced himself to the hospital, just making it there before passing out.  Meanwhile I was home stressing if he even made it to the hospital. I know, I know,  but when your husband is unable to breathe you can’t really take the time to argue with him about who should drive.  I can tell you I was very happy to get his ‘text’ saying that he made it. (it was something like this: 'ay hos')

Don’t worry, that is the worse of it.

Which is why I know it is not normal to be so pessimistic at the start of a new year and I probably shouldn’t be. I mean, there are many things to be thankful for, (Himself survived and is back up and over the worst of it) and I’m sure that there are thousands of people worse off.  I guess it’s just that 2012 very nearly kicked our butts.

So this year I have only two New Year’s resolutions:

  1. for us is to make it to 2014
  2. to lose some weight

How about you? How do you feel about what lies ahead in 2013?
Did you make any New Years resolutions?
