Sunshine after the rain

It has been raining here for more than a week now so we could really do with some sunshine.... and low and behold Colleen was kind enough to send me the Sunshine award! Thanks Colleen!

I just love Colleen's blog, and if you are still not following her, what is wrong with you??? Go check her out right now! Then come back and read the questions she asked me and my answers.
I'm also going to have to check out all the other ladies who she nominated cause believe it or not I'm not following all of them yet.

Oh wait let me give you the down-low on the Sunshine award:

The award is circulated to those bloggers that you want to inform that  their posts brighten your day.

1. Include the award logo on your post or blog
2. Link to the person who nominated you - Colleen
3. Answer 10 questions about yourself.
4. Nominate 10 bloggers to receive the award. Link your nominees in your post and leave them a comment letting them know that they have been nominated and give them 10 questions to answer about themselves.

Easy peasy!

Below are the questions from Colleen:
1.        How and where did you meet your husband?

Okay, lets see, I think I'll give you the short-ish answer.  My husband (Himself) & I heard about each other before meeting. I attended a church camp with a couple of kids who went to school with him. Coincidentally, his aunt and her new husband were counsellors at this camp. So I heard loads of stories about him. Then, when they were back at school one of the boys in his class and one in the class above him wrote to me and he would steal the letters and make fun of them and me ..... Then, about 2 or 3 years later when I started high school (boarding school) his best friend's dad was a teacher at my high school so he would come and visit them for weekends and that is how we met. PS. I did not like him, thought he was a bit of a show-off ---- > funny how life turns out. He claims it was love at first sight ... not that he acted on it. We only started dating years later (1997)

2.        What is your favorite movie and why?

There is no way on earth that I can pick a favorite movie, I have too many! I Love a good action movie, a cheesy love story, something funny ... it all really depends on what I'm in the mood for. So okay, I'll list a couple for you:

Shrek, The good, the bad, the ugly, Forrest Gump, Ronin, Lock Stock and two smoking barrels, Layercake, When a man loves a woman, French connection, The holiday, Cool hand Luke, ... okay this list can go on and on and on ... I love movies!

3.        Do you have any regrets in your life?
Yes, not going to university, mostly because I think people think I'm stupid. In general I try not to dwell on the things I regret it will just make you unhappy. So I try to just learn of them.

4.        What has been your biggest accomplishment?
My kids, cause so far they seem to have turned out okay, I only seem to have screwed them up enough to make them interesting not crazy or weird ... fingers crossed this doesn't change.

5.        Name your favorite dessert.
Just one? I have a real sweet tooth! A perfect chocolate mouse.

6.        What's your favorite holiday?
Without a doubt Christmas! It never turns out the way I want it to but I still love it.

7.        What kind of music do you listen to?
Most of the time I just listen to one of the local radio stations which plays the 'top 40' which is actually great cause Belgium is really a fantastic place for music. We get music from the US, UK, France, Holland and the local stuff which means that it covers a lot of genres and styles. But my top favorite band of all time is Aerosmith.

8.        What was the best concert you have been to?
Growing up during the apartheid years in South Africa meant that we didn't get any popular acts turning up and giving shows. Not to mention that I grew up in the ass end of now where ... so I'm going to have to say that my first concert was exceptional. I loved it. It was Bon Jovi in December of 1995.  I recently saw them again when they were in Germany and yeah I still loved them.

9.        Why did you start a blog?

My friend Charmaine used to blog and I loved being part of their lives even if I lived so far away. So then I stared a blog of my own ... but sort of ran out of steam and stopped. Then two years ago, (what? how did that happen?) I started again just as a way of keeping track of what is happening in our lives and then I discovered so many amazing women and their blogs that I can't stop cause I want to stay in touch with all of them.

10.        If you could travel anywhere in the world and money was no object, where would you go?
Well right now I would love to be able to go to South Africa because my husband's gran is very ill and my mother-in-law could really do with some support. And also because I haven't been there since 2009 so I would love to see the rest of my family again.  I would love to go see my cousin who is in Australia and expecting her first baby. Her husband works 2000 km / 1 242 miles away from home and so she is all alone.

I would like to go to the US, do a road trip of the entire place, and then go up to Canada cause I've heard such great things about it. I would love to go back to the Caribbean. I would travel to see the rest of Europe which I still haven't seen ... Go visit our friends in New Zealand. Take the kids to Namibia, I was there in 1996 and loved it and would love to take the kids ... see, there are so many places I would like to see if only I had the cash!

  2. First - great questions!!! I'm so jealous about the music . . . I feel like we get everything so late here. it's old news by the time it makes it way here.

I hate that anyone would think you are stupid because you did not go to college. That is just plain ignorant.

And finally, thank you for your sweet words friend!

  3. Aw, shucks...I'll play this weekend! I love Q & A's....and your answers are great!

I love a good chocolate mousse, and I hope y'all can make it home. It sounds like y'all are needed there!

You are so NOT stupid. Get over it because college degrees are overrated unless you want to study a particular topic. They don't always predict success in life!

Your kids are great, and you should be very proud of them!

    RJ

  5. I think Bon Jovi is a pretty kick a** first concert! I think mine was something dorky like The Dixie Chicks (female country singers).

You forgot to add London to #10... ;o)

  6. Thanks for nominating me! I'm horrible at remembering to do these but I'll try :)

And the fact it was so hard for you to experience a concert for so long makes me grateful for all of the ones I've been to!

  7. Aww, thank you. I'll do it this week. I love your questions!

I love the story about you and your husband!! I also LOVE When A Man Loves A Woman and don't really know that many people who've seen it. Such a great movie. And Andy Garcia...swoon. I also love what you said about your kids. I'm probably making mine pretty interesting too! :) South Africa is actually number one on my travel list too. I have a few friends who live there that I'd love to visit and it seems like such a great place with so much to do.
