Take a deep breath & count to 10

Divorce? No …. Murder … o it’s crossed my mind!

Yesterday morning I get a call from Himself.  I think, o how sweet he’s calling me to say goodbye just as he is getting on the plane.

NOT!

Himself:  So I forgot to extend the car rental contract. They’ve reported the car as stolen so you might get arrested for driving a stolen vehicle. Try to extend the contract or take the car back.

Me: What?

Himself: Look I’m sorry I’m about to board the plane there is nothing I can do now. Call Tom see if you can use his car for the week if you can’t extend the contract. Bye!

Me: What??   WTF??  à Right at this moment I felt like murdering him.

Ok, so to understand it better here is a bit of background. We own a van but this van is being used by the construction crew who works for Himself. We were in the process of buying a new car but the guy turned out to be a bit of a cowboy. So while we are waiting to buy a new car we have been renting a car.

Right, back to yesterday.

I emailed the car rental company …. no reply.  I rush home from work because I have to pick the kids up before 6 (else I have to pay a late penalty of  50c per child per minute.

Once I have the kids we go home, I sort out homework, and dinner. Call our friend Tom to hear if I could use his car for the week.
No luck, his car is in the shop …  ‘FUDGE!!!!’

I call my friend Kim. Her husband is in Norway for the week. Meaning she is probably using his car which means that I could possibly borrow her car.

No luck, he took the car with him to the army base. FUDGE!!!!

I’m starting to get really stressed out!  Poor kids are being shouted at for asking me questions. Man I was feeling so bad about that but at the same time it was like I could not stop myself.

With nothing else to do I call the guy who drives the van.  I explain the issue with him. He agrees to meet me at the airport so I can return the rental car.  I put the kids to bed with strict instructions to go to bed, and not open the door for anyone.
(yes, I left my two kids home alone. …. not the best thing to do but I had no other choice. They needed to get to sleep and taking them along and keeping them awake was not an option). We also live in a very quiet area and have 3 big dogs in the house.

Long story short I manage to return the car. Drop Griff off at his house after working out how to get the car to him in the morning as quickly as possible.

Home.

This morning we had to leave the house at close to 7 as possible. Usually this is not a problem.  This morning it was. Tiger had jumped into water puddles and his shoes were sopping wet. Every other pair of shoes I gave him were ‘too small’.

I finally found a shoe that was good but only one …. while turning the house upside down to find the other shoe I found a lot of things that I’ve been looking for which the kids have ‘packed away’ …. mmh going to need to do a thorough cleaning upstairs (not excited about that!).

We managed to leave the house at 7:30! Meaning that Griff got the van ½ hour late!

And it’s raining again!, and I can’t fit into my jeans and I don’t think it is because they shrunk in the dryer! All of which is making me want to eat cake! Which means soon I will not even be able to fit into my fat jeans!

This week better start getting better !

Just another normal weekend

This weekend was just another normal weekend. You know, you run around trying to do all the things you never get around to doing.  However, I finally managed to go apply for my new passport.

The commune (town council where you do all these administrative things) is only open between 9:30 and 15:00 week days. Meaning that if you work, you have to go there in the 3 hour slot they are open for on the weekend.  As you can imagine there was quite the queue.

I was a little bit worried that they might have an issue with my new photo. No matter how hard I tried to get my hair flat it just would not lie down (did you now that all of your hair had to be in the photo?).  Luckily she didn’t say anything and I can pick my new passport up in 2 weeks.

I had lots of other errands to run the kids and I rushed around town for the rest of the day, not even getting time to stop for lunch.

But I did manage to get everything done in time to watch the rugby. The Springboks (South African national team) played against England.  They have a new coach and 3 new players so I was a bit worried. I needn’t have been, we won! 22/17 … it’s not by much and it’s really sad cause we were leading 22/12 until England scored a try in the final minute. But hey, a win is a win.

Morne Steyn scoring the first try - yay!

Tiger was cheering along with me, he’s really getting into it. Asking me about rules and if this or that is legal. Cat was miserable; she did not want to be there. Luckily, there were quite a few other kids in the pub so she made friends.  By the time Himself turned up and we left to go for dinner she even wanted to know if we could come watch the rugby next weekend again. And, do I think Emma & Max will be there again.

Cat had a birthday part at 10 on Sunday morning! Madness I say!  O and it was Fathers day here so the kids gave Himself the gifts they made at school. That is about the extent to which we celebrate.

The rest of Sunday was spent doing laundry and homework with the kids. Himself left for Mexico this morning so I had to make sure his bag was packed and ready.

3 more weeks to go before the holiday … I can’t wait!

On this day

I almost can’t believe that today happened.  Then again I’ve secretly been counting the days and double checking to make sure I got the date right but still a small part of my can’t believe it.

Too vague?

Ok, I’ll just blurt it out:

Yip, my blog is a year old today.

But I have to say thanks to you guys because if I didn’t get that first reader/follower who is not related to me I don’t think I would still be blogging.

You guys are awesome!

You come and read about my mundane every day life, how I complain about the dogs. ( I really try to keep my complaints about them to the minimum, my poor friends here hear about the a lot more). How I sometimes feel I’m a bad mom.

You let me read your blogs and find out more about your lives and your families.

In short, you make me wish that Belgium was closer to where you live so we could meet in person. Or that plane tickets were cheaper. One day!  Unless you decide to come on over and visit me (hint hint!)

Face Plant

It was one of those moments where you whish the ground would open up and swallow you.

The rain fairies have obviously not yet cottoned on to the fact that it is Summer time. Neither have the fairies that control the sunshine. We are stuck in very wet and very grey weather.

By very wet I mean, imagine what you would look like if you stepped into the shower fully dressed for about 8 min.  That is how long it takes me to walk to my office from the train station.

Next thing I know I’m on my knees in the lobby of my office building clutching my handbag in one hand and my coffee in the other.

It’s bad enough when you slip and fall in front of an audience, it’s even worse if you do that in heels. Cause obviously they all think that you fell because of your heels. The fact that the tiled floor is wet has nothing to do with it.  And it’s not like nobody noticed or didn’t know who it happened to I’m the only person around here with bright pink hair (yeah it’s faded a bit).

The sign didn't stop me from falling either!

Angry eyes ...

I really seem to lack authority.  Last night after letting the dogs out to do their thing Duke and Gus didn’t come back inside.  No amount of calling or whistling did the trick.

It was raining and I was barefoot so I wasn’t keen on going outside but out of sheer desperation I put on some shoes and walked to the back.

I could hear them, at the bottom of the pond.

I put on my angry voice. ‘Duke, Gus inside now!’

Nothing.  They didn’t even stop what they were doing.

So I traipsed back inside.  ‘Please man, don’t you want to call them in?’

He walks over to our bedroom window.  ‘O they’ll never hear you, they are at the bottom of the pond’ I say.

Himself: (quick short whistle) ‘Duke, Gus, inside’ not even very loud.

Next thing, they come running into the house.

Honestly, what is it about me that make kids and dogs alike ignore me? Even my angry voice!

‘don’t forget your angry eyes’ …. I need a new angry voice

Book Club Friday

I've been booked off from work with a cold, nothing serious but I must admit it has been good catching up on some sleep. Didn't know I could sleep as much.

I also did some reading .....

So, this weeks book is:

“The night they killed our neighbors, we never heard a thing.”

In a quiet suburban neighborhood, in a house only one door away, a family is brutally murdered for no apparent reason. And you think to yourself: It could have been us. And you start to wonder: What if we’re next?

What did I think?

It's good! Honestly, you find out that everyone involved has a secret. But what you don't know is if their secret is a secret worth killing for .....

How about you? what have you been reading?  Link up and tell!
