A national day of mourning

At 11:00 this morning the entire country came to a stand still for a minute of silence. To remember the 22 children and six adults who died so tragically in the bus crash on Tuesday night.

Even as a parent I don't think I can even begin to imagine what it must be like for the families of those who died. I feel nauseous even just thinking out something like that happening to our kids.

On Wednesday morning after the news reached us we were talking about it. As a parent you want to do all you can to protect your children but you also want to let your child live a 'normal life'. Going on a school trip is part of that 'normal life'. Keeping your kids close to you all the time does not guarantee that nothing bad is ever going to happen to them. They can die in a car accident with you as the driver because, life is unpredictable that way.

What we can do is to show our loved ones how much they are loved every day.

Sorry for the heavy post but it's been on my mind a lot this week.

  1. It's so true. Sheltering kids doesn't necessarily protect them and whenever I hear about a child who is hurt or has died it really just breaks me apart. Motherhood is universal that way.

  2. SO very tragic. I had similar thoughts to you when I heard about this :( I'm so very sorry for all of those familes affected. I just can't even begin to imagine.

You said it though... you can't keep your kids in a bubble and you have to let them have experiences if you want them to have a 'normal' life, but it's so frightening to do that sometimes and even more frightening when you hear of tragedies like this one :(

  3. That is such a tragedy. Just awful. I'm so sorry to hear about that. It does make you want to hold your babies tight and never let them out of your sight. :o( My heart aches for all the familes that lost their children.
